Midcrowd platform

Build it yourself

Pick a template written for your trade, make it yours, and publish. You run it from then on — the website, the enquiries, the shop and the billing, all in one dashboard.

Or have us build it

No card is needed to look around the templates. A subscription starts when you publish.

Who it is for

Who it is for

Businesses that need a professional website and do not want to hire anyone to keep it running. If you can write your own About page, you can run a Midcrowd site.

When it is not the answer

If your website needs rules a template cannot express, has to log customers in to their own data, or has to talk to a system you already run, that is a custom project rather than a subscription — and we would rather say so here than after you have paid for a month.

How it works

  1. Tell us what the business is

Pick your trade and the kind of business within it. That is what selects the pages, the sections and the words the template starts with.

  2. Choose a design

You see the real thing before you choose it: the preview is the template rendering, not a screenshot of one.

  3. Make it yours

Replace the words and pictures, set your colours and type, add or remove sections and pages.

  4. Turn on what you need

Connect a domain you own. Switch selling on if you want a shop, and complete the payment provider's verification when you are ready to take money.

  5. Publish

One button. The version you publish is the version people see, and the one before it is kept.

  6. Run it from one place

The website, the enquiries, the products, the orders, the customers and the billing are all in the same dashboard — one per website, all under one account.

What you get

Building the website

  • Templates for your trade

Fifteen template families, each with several complete designs written for a specific kind of business — a bakery's pages are not a law firm's pages in different colours.

  • A visual editor

Edit the page you are looking at: change text and images in place, reorder and add sections, adjust type and colour, and see the result at desktop, tablet and phone width before anyone else does.

  • Pages and navigation

Add pages, set their address, decide what appears in the menu, and control each page's own title and description.

  • Publish, history and rollback

Nothing is live until you publish. Every published version is kept, so a change you regret is one click back rather than an evening's work.

Putting it online

  • A free address, or your own domain

Every website gets a free address on sites.midcrowd.com and can also serve a domain you own. Midcrowd does not sell domains — you keep yours with your registrar and point it here.

  • Hosting and HTTPS included

Your site is served and its certificate is issued and renewed for you. There is no separate hosting bill and no server for you to look after.

  • Search-engine basics you control

Each page has its own title and description, and one screen shows you which pages are missing them and whether the site is indexable at all.

  • Enquiry forms that reach you

A contact form on your site writes to your dashboard, where the message is kept and can be answered. It is not an email link dressed up as a form.

  • Invite your team

Give someone their own sign-in with a role that limits what they can reach, instead of sharing one password.

Selling, when you want to

  • A switch, not a second website

Turn selling on and your address, design, pages and content stay exactly as they are; a Shop page is added if you have nowhere for products to appear. Turn it off again and every product, order and customer record is kept.

  • Products, orders, customers

A catalogue with images and options, orders you can work through, customer records, discount codes and shipping rules — all in the same dashboard as the website.

  • You take the payment, not us

Card payments go through Stripe into an account in your own name, and payouts reach your own bank. Midcrowd is the software, not the seller, and takes a platform commission of 3.00% on each sale, shown per payment in your dashboard. Selling needs a short verification with Stripe first — you can build and publish before that.

  • Refunds, payouts and a balance you can read

Issue a refund from the order, and see what has been collected, what commission was taken and what is on its way to your bank.

What it does not do

Four things people reasonably expect and will not find. Better to read them now than to discover them later.

  • Visitor analytics

Midcrowd does not count your visitors. There is no traffic chart, because there is no collector behind one — and a chart of estimates is a number you would make decisions on. Your dashboard shows what is real instead: publishes, orders, revenue and customers.

  • Mailboxes on your domain

Midcrowd does not provide email addresses on your domain. Keep using whichever mail provider you already have; connecting a domain to Midcrowd does not affect it.

  • Buying a domain name

We do not sell domains. Buy yours wherever you like and point it at Midcrowd — which also means you can take it with you.

  • Your own code on the page

You cannot paste scripts or embeds into a Midcrowd site. That is what keeps one subscriber's page from running code on another's, and it is a real limit: if your site needs a third-party widget, that is a custom project rather than a template.
